This project was split into 2 phases of work; phase 1 included the strip out, asbestos removal and demolition of buildings 26, 27 and 29 and the strip out and demolition of buildings 28 and 30. Phase 2 included the strip out and demolition of building 3 and a small asbestos removal within the cleaner shed. Once all buildings were demolished, all arisings from site, with the exception of brick, concrete and tarmacadam, were crushed to a 6F5 standard and left stockpiled on site for re-use in the development.
The asbestos removal within buildings 26, 27 and 29 were notified to the HSE and carried out under fully controlled conditions by our experienced asbestos removal team. The works included the removal of AIB within various rooms of the buildings. In order to keep a steam of continuous work, the strip out team started by carrying out works within the first building to facilitate the asbestos removal works; the asbestos team then carried out their works and an independent analyst attended to carry out a 4 stage clearance and provided a reoccupation certificate. Once this had been carried out, the demolition works could start. On the 2 buildings were there no asbestos works, the strip out team carried out their works and facilitate the demolition of these buildings. Unfortunately, due to nesting birds within building 26, the demolition was delayed; we worked closely with a local ecologist to ensure that the birds were not creating more nests. Once the ecologist confirmed that the birds had left their nests, the demolition works happened as planned.
Phase 2 works commenced while the works within phase 1 were being carried out; there was a small non-licensed asbestos removal within the cleaners shed which was completed under semi controlled conditions. The strip out team carried out the works as planned and then the building was demolished.
Once all buildings were demolished, the arisings were processed and crushed to a 6F5 specification and placed in stockpiles as agreed with the client.
