Dunelm (Soft Furnishings) Limited contacted our specialised and experienced asbestos removal team to price the removal of cement infill panels within a live shop floor. Once the project was instructed, we attended site, with an independent analyst, on a weekend to carry out a trial of works to test whether the proposed method of works was suitable and to ensure the fibre release levels were satisfactory. The results showed that the method of works was suitable for the project, and the fibre release levels remained satisfactory throughout the removal.
Due to the controlled breakage within the removal process, these works were to be carried out under fully controlled conditions and were notified to the HSE under an NNLW. The store remained live during the works, and although the area was segregated and not entered by any employees or members of the public, the asbestos removal was carried out over night in order to keep disturbance and potential exposure to a minimum. With these works, it was best practice to carry out daily reassurance air tests once at the end of every shift, prior to the store opening and any employees entering the building. Once all works were completed, the independent analyst carried out a visual inspection with our experienced site manager and issued Dunelm with a visual clearance certificate.
We then returned to site to carry out the asbestos infill removal to the 1st floor offices once all employees had vacated to independent outside trailers. As with the shop floor, these works were notified to the HSE under an NNLW and works were carried out under fully controlled conditions. Once works were completed, our experienced site manager carried out a visual inspection and issued a visual clearance certificate to Dunelm
